Y'all, I'm not athletic. I do not shred. But raising money for domestic and sexual violence survivors is just TOO IMPORTANT and I can't sit idly by snacking and drinking wine. So a few weeks ago, I dragged my chubby, out of shape self out of the chair and got onto my mountain bike for the first time in more years than I care to admit. And although it hasn't been pretty, I've ridden almost every day since then.
Why am I subjecting myself to sore muscles, unexplained bruises all over my legs, sunburn, bug bites, and abject humiliation? Because every 72 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. Survivors of sexual violence experience far reaching effects such as depression, substance abuse, homelessness, PTSD, and many many more. Like so many things, sexual violence disproportionately impacts people of color, young people, people with disabilities, and people with LGBTQ+ identities. And when people who've experienced sexual violence do bravely come forward, they are frequently not believed, re-traumatized, or minimized.
I hope you'll join me in supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Chaffee County by contributing to my fundraiser. We need all the help we can get in providing support and advocacy services to our most vulnerable. And, seeing those donations rack up just might motivate me to make it to the top of my next big climb. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for your support!
